They say the eyes are the windows to our souls, but on your wedding day, your wedding hair is the start of a new beginning. Determining how to wear your hair can be stressful, but with these few tips, the aisle will become your runway.

To determine the best wedding hairstyle for your big day start by examining your dress. For example, an open back dress is best suited with an updo. The neckline of your dress has a bit more leeway, no matter the neckline of your dress your wedding hairstyle will not be affected.

Schedule a meeting with your hair and makeup artist a week before your wedding day to test trial styles and ideas best suited for you. By doing this you can try out that pinned wedding hairstyle on your pinterst board you’ve been dying to see on yourself, then realizing it wont complement your open back dress. If this is your first time meeting your hair and make up artist and they aren’t able to do a certain look for you, this will also help you find one who can.

Well, how do you find a well rated makeup artist? Sometimes, its your cousin or soon to be sister in law. However, don’t feel obligated to use a family member if their style doesn’t match your own! It can be hard to communicate that at times, but when it comes down to it, it’s your day!

If you’re having trouble finding a local hair and makeup artist, talk to your wedding photographer! Your wedding photographer would have worked with a range of local artists and will help you find someone who will make you feel great, respect your opinion, and have you looking great for photography as well!

Trying out hair trends is probably not the best idea if you are going to be doing your own hair and makeup. Sticking to simple up dos or soft glam beach wavy hair will be a timeless go to for all brides. Wedding hairstyles should complement your face structures and dress. But the hair style you choose should also be versatile to make quick changes in case you plan to dance your heart out on the dance floor.

Something to keep in mind:

When a bride asks me directly what hair style I recommend, I always go for the half up, half down look. This allows for the most flattering adjustments during couples posing.

If you’ve ever considered hair extensions, there’s no better time to splurge! There are so many different approaches to hair extensions, some far more flexible than others. Some hair and makeup artists even have hair extensions you can borrow or rent for the wedding. More hair gives you more flexibility in braids or more intricate details while styling!

Plan on a touch up between ceremony and reception. Easier done when it’s a family member but invite the stylist to stay as a guest!

Such a great tip, Kathryn. Especially for long wedding days. I love the idea of changing up the hair style a little between ceremony and reception!

Early October I got to experience an adventurous and romantic Swiss Autumn with my long distance partner. We traveled deep into the Swiss mountains, ate all the yummy food, met old friends, went to a dance party, made some new friends, enjoyed a private sauna with an impressive view, took naps, snuggled, and went on […]

We have to get a little creative here with our PNW Photojournalism. One of the first things you learn as a new natural light photographer is how incredible a big window can make any room look. A tiny corner in the most unassuming place, if sitting close to a window can produce the most magical […]

Tonight, I took the boys to the Everett Haunted Harbor community event! Everyone putting it on was so sweet and we all had a blast! Thank you to all the boat volunteers! We started with trick or treating at the boats, watching witches paddle board around the harbor, petting all the neighbor dogs, and watched […]

Hey, Mommas. Take a look at your babies now. Go ahead. Just take a quick peek. They grow. Today was a bit exhausting, wasn’t it? There were moments of things never being quite perfect. You tried your best and showed up in every way you could possibly think to and still, you fell short in […]
