The following are a handful of images from a recent shoot I was invited to document with an amazing team of Buckley area wedding vendors. | Buckley Wa Wedding Photographer.

In the past, I have coordinated and lead four or so styled shoots and paid to be a part of three or four. Traditionally, styled shoots are lead by a team of vendors and many photographers are invited to participate. The ones I lead I loved every minute of but decided leading photographer’s education wasn’t quite right for me, yet.

However, the ones I paid to be a part of missed the mark (and I suspect the same is true for the ones I directed as well). They were beautiful experiences but I found the group was just looking for “pretty photos”.

They came to the shoot with no real purpose to try and learn something new. “Portfolio building” in the same light using the same techniques as what they usually do felt like a shallow goal. We’d pick up a few tips from surrounding photographers…learning how to do things exactly the way the other person was. Later, I’d find them using the same poses, same words to guide, and even similar angles as a photographer right down the street. Then, they’d have images to share that looked exactly like their friend down the street, too! Having documented the same floral arrangement, same models, etc.

I think these group activities are fun for the community, but fall short when it comes to what one can accomplish with a styled shoot.

So, I took a break from “styled shoots” for a while and focused on real weddings.

I am so proud and honored to make bit of a debut back into the Styled Shoot World with this Fall Warmth Shoot at The Five2Five in Buckley, Washington!

When Courtney & Lisa invited The Studio & Print Lab to be the only photography company present and offered to put the team together, I was blown away. I think the entire team underestimated how much work everything would be, but it was SO WORTH IT!!!

Clynn assisted with Lighting & alternate angles.

My intent was to become familiar with several new pieces of equipment while making sure every vendor left with beautiful images.

This was my first time working with a profoto B10, soft box, having the freedom to experiment with a 100mm Macro, and my second or third time using a 50mm 1.2 in place of my usual 35. The B10 was the biggest change as I typically only have access to little speed lights. Long story short, I was sold. Since this shoot, I’ve been back for the B10 twice and juggling to purchase it or a printer upgrade first!

THANK YOU to all the vendors for trusting Clynn and I with your time and talent. I look forward to featuring you guys on the blog, soon!

A little family Wellman Update dump. Morning! I’ve struggled coming back in to write lately. I abandoned my last post in tears over the current state of The Studio. My camera bag was stolen about a year ago. Everything I’ve photographed in 2024 has been on rented equipment. Being abandoned with the children with zero […]

Early October I got to experience an adventurous and romantic Swiss Autumn with my long distance partner. We traveled deep into the Swiss mountains, ate all the yummy food, met old friends, went to a dance party, made some new friends, enjoyed a private sauna with an impressive view, took naps, snuggled, and went on […]

We have to get a little creative here with our PNW Photojournalism. One of the first things you learn as a new natural light photographer is how incredible a big window can make any room look. A tiny corner in the most unassuming place, if sitting close to a window can produce the most magical […]

Tonight, I took the boys to the Everett Haunted Harbor community event! Everyone putting it on was so sweet and we all had a blast! Thank you to all the boat volunteers! We started with trick or treating at the boats, watching witches paddle board around the harbor, petting all the neighbor dogs, and watched […]
