I’ll be the first to admit I haven’t done allot of maternity sessions compared to couples sessions or weddings. Certainly not women by themselves with the bump! However, this session with Christine’s Des Moines Maternity Photos did make me consider offering maternity sessions more openly.
Christine’s husband was unexpectedly deployed a couple weeks from when we had her maternity session scheduled. We had planned on him being there, but such is the life of military families. ♥ I’ve been there, too.
We’re currently working on a little momento of blending photos so he can be in one or two. Fingers crossed we get something, if not just a meaningful memory from the project!
I go through stages with photography where I despise natural light and ones where I embrace it excitedly. My frustration mainly comes from complete lack of control. Clouds roll in, a sunset happens faster or slower than expected, colors change drastically, shadows constantly moving. Natural light is such a funny way to start. If you ask me, it’s the most advanced lighting source for photography….why every photographer STARTS with it is lost on me. haha
The light was so beautiful for our session. We had a combination of hard light and soft light. The timing was perfect.
I selected the wood scene for when the sun was a bit higher. I knew it would create bolder colors and we would be provided with more cover to one side at the location we chose. Once the sun got softer, we headed to the water. I knew the water would reflect cooler light but more of it as the sun set.
It was a beautiful session and I’m very proud of a handful of these! I know Christine is excited to order prints, too!
Congratulations, Christine & Kevin! Thank you so much for choosing The Studio to document this season for you. ♥
